all your base are belong to us
"All Your Base Are Belong to Us" is a popular catchphrase that swept across the internet at the dawn of 21st century as early as in 1998. An awkward Engrish translation of "all of your bases are under our control," the quote originally appeared in the opening dialogue of Zero Wing, a nostalgic 16-bit shoot'em up game released in 1989. Marked by abundance of poor grammar, "All Your Base" phrase and the dialogue scene went viral on popular discussion forums in 2000, spawning thousands of image macros and flash animations featuring the slogan both on the web and in real life.MORE
ALL YOUR BASE ARE BELONG TO US
A declaration of victory or superiority. The phrase stems from a 1991 adaptation of Toaplan's "Zero Wing" shoot-'em-up arcade game for the Sega Genesis game console. A brief introduction was added to the opening screen, and it has what many consider to be the worst Japanese-to-English translation in video game history. The introduction shows the bridge of a starship in chaos as a Borg-like figure named CATS materializes and says, "How are you gentlemen!! All your base are belong to us." sic In 2001, this amusing mistranslation spread virally through the internet, bringing with it a slew of JPEGs and a movie of hacked photographs, each showing a street sign, store front, package label, etc. hacked to read "All your base are belong to us" or one of the other many supremely dopey lines from the game (such as "Somebody set us up the bomb!!!" or "What happen?"). When these phrases are used properly, the overall effect is both screamingly funny and somewhat chilling, reminiscent of the B movie "They Live".
The original has been generalized to "All your X are belong to us", where X is filled in to connote a sinister takeover of some sort. Thus, "When Joe signed up for his new job at Yoyodyne, he had to sign a draconian NDA. It basically said, `All your code are belong to us.'" Has many of the connotations of "Resistance is futile; you will be assimilated"
all your base are belong to us
Why is this here?
What does this have to do with graphic design or any of the other stuff that you are peddling?
THESE ARE GOOD QUESTIONS...
MY LAME ANSWER: I just can't help myself. For me, it's like a cute kitten: It reminds me of an age of innocence when the web was still young and there was no shame in making animated gifs. Over the years, this is about the fourth time I've spotlighted ALL YOUR BASE on totally unrelated web sites. I have no defense for this behavior.
So here it is one more time. (For old time's sake) Because it was there.
Captain: What happen ?
Mechanic: Somebody set up us the bomb.
Operator: We get signal.
Captain: What !
Operator: Main screen turn on.
Captain: It's you !!
CATS: How are you gentlemen !!
CATS: All your base are belong to us.
CATS: You are on the way to destruction.
Captain: What you say !!
CATS: You have no chance to survive make your time.
CATS: Ha ha ha ha …
Operator: Captain !!
Captain: Take off every 'ZIG'!!
Captain: You know what you doing.
Captain: Move 'ZIG'.
Captain: For great justice.
